Madeira Optical is located in downtown Madeira just seconds from the Kenwood Mall. Our optometrists, Dr. Malinda Pence and Dr. Jennifer Kritzer enjoy practicing in a local Cincinnati multi-generational family eye care environment. We schedule our appointments to make sure you get in quickly and receive a comprehensive eye exam without being rushed. We want you to be comfortable with your visual acuity and have your eye care questions are answered. Our office is equipped with the latest technology, including digital retinal imaging.

Our History
The Early Days
Madeira Optical was founded in the Cincinnati suburb of Madeira, Ohio in 1956 by Dr. Larry Spitz. Dr. Spitz practiced in Madeira for 46 years, all in the location he originally rented in 1956. His practice become a part of the fabric of Madeira. Dr. Spitz was even given the key to the city. When Dr. Spitz decide to retire, he turned down several offers until he found Dr. Pence. Dr. Spitz found a good match because Dr. Pence was seeking a community based mulit-generational family practice in a strong community that she could live in.
Dr. Pence Expands the Practice
Dr. Pence purchased Dr. Spitz's practice and renamed in Madeira Optical. She totally remodeled the facilities and upgraded the exam lane. Over the years, the practice continued to grow, and Dr. Pence added more state-of-the-art eye exam equipment and high quality eyewear. Over time, it became clear that Madeira Optical was running out of space due to the kind support of so many Blue Ash, Indian Hill, Kenwood, Loveland, Madeira, Mariemont and Terrace park families plus a sprinkling of loyal patient from all over Cincinnati and the country.
A State-of-the-Art Community Optometry Practice
In 2011 in was clear that Madeira Optical was out of room. After 14 years working for a retiring Ophthalmologist in Kenwood, Dr. Jennifer Kritzer joined Madeira Optical. Dr. Kritzer brought the same values and commitment to community-based multi-generational eye care. However, Madeira Optical's landlords of 55 years were running into space problems as well, so an expansion was set in motion. In 2012, Madeira Optical celebrated the 56th anniversary of it's 1956 founding and thanks to many great local families, the practice is vibrant and growing. A new facility on Laurel Ave. will complete the transition to a fully modernized practice with a dedicated pre-test room, contact lens room and beautiful optical shop while allowing Dr. Pence to carry on the legacy and wishes of the founding. Since 1956, Madeira Optical is and always will be a local Optometry practice focused on providing high quality eye care and eyewear to our neighbors, friends and family.
